  My husband is my and our kids' hero since he does so much to take care of his family here at home and is always there for the rest of his family, friends and neighbors whenever they call for help or he just seems to know when he is needed. He tries to spend as much time as possible with his two sons, stepping in when a den leader was needed for the second son's cub scout tiger den. He volunteered when help was needed for coach's pitch baseball. He comes home for lunch in the middle of his long day at work to spend as much time as possible with his family. We think he's the best dad and husband ever.

  What makes her a hometown hero is that she puts her self aside for everyone else, and no matter she make sure we her children and grand-children have they need she help others with there problems and she works 6 days a week being a youth worker and never have time 4 her self i really think she need a trip for her self but this is why she is my hero. THANK YOU much.

  Leah is a 17 year old who gives her whole heart to making life better for others. Grateful for the second chance at life that she was given through a heart transplant, she makes sure every minute counts. She shares her story and the importance of organ donation with elementary schools, high schools and civic groups. Recently she went to Washington to lobby our Congressmen and Senators to reconsider a bill that adversely effected funding for Children's Hospitals. She was successful. Along with coordinating a support group for pediatric heart transplant patients, she works with patients prior to and following their transplant for encouragement. She has also worked with Make-A-Wish, Riley Children's Foundation, and the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization in fund raising efforts. She is our hometown hero and deserves a vacation for herself to have fun!

  My friend Mimi is my hero because she has endured so much and still always has a positive attitudde and praises God no matter what. She fought breast cancer and praises God every day of every week that God gives her challenges to strenghthen her in those times. Her faith is inspiring. I thank God to have her as a friend in my life

  Penelope orr is a hero because she helps support her grand kids and their mothers. While being a single parent with no help for her self. She has also been diagnosed with MS along with having a closed head injury ,she some how takes care of 4 grand kids , 3 grown kids,and,2 at home. IF SHE IS NOT A HERO I DONT KNOW WHAT IS??????????
• Thelah Mosier - Elkhart IN
  My Hero is my Mother. She married my father at the age of 17 and started her life with him. They had 3 girls. When I was 4 years old, my father was involved in a bad accident. He was left a quadraplegic. My mom had to take care of my father as well as three little girls. She always wanted the best for us. She always made it look so easy no matter how difficult it was. She had to do everything no matter what it was. My mom was abused as a child and had a hard time spaking us. My father was always the one that did the spaking because of my mothers childhood. When this happened to us, it changed our entire life. Many people looked down at my mom for such a long time and no matter what, she always held her head high. God has brought my mother along way and has always made sure that she got through everything. She is also very active in our church and makes sure that everything is done for everyone no matter what. She is a servent for GOD. With out my mom showing me how to handle yourself when things get rough, at such a young age, I dont think that I could have made it with my life. I am a single mother of three beautiful girls, Kinda like my mom. I have a set of twins which is sometimes hard, but my mom is there for me and always helps me through anything. She is such a spirit filled woman who can do anything and always puts other first. I want her to know how special she is too me and my family and always will be. If you choose my mom it would be the best gift anyone ever gave her, since she never askes for anything!
• Madeline Cumbey - Ft. Wayne IN
  My daughter Madeline is definitely a hometown hero. At just seven years old she collected over 700 boxes of girl scout cookies to send to the 1st 293rd Indiana Army National Guard (another goup that are all hometown heroes from FT. Wayne, IN) by setting up collection booths all over town, going door to door, and e-mailing every person she knows. When she was short of her 1000 box goal she enlisted the help of her troop sisters and in all collected 1200 boxes of cookies to send to Iraq to the 1st 293rd. With some media exposure (Thank You Indiana Newscenter!) she was able to raise the $1300 to ship the boxes to Iraq as well. Her perservence and never give up attitude to help those who are helping our country makes her the perfect hometown hero.
• Cindy Lynch - Chicago, Il
  Cindy is a mother of young triplets. She takes care of two households-her own family, and her elderly parents-age 87 and 91. At a moments notice, Cindy will drop everything in Chicago & drive 40 miles to assist in a family emergency in Indiana. She also brings her elderly parents cooked meals, does their yard work, and takes them to numerous doctor appts. Cindy accepts the high price of gas, Chicago traffic, and the 40 mile to weekly trip to Indiana with a smile an upbeat attitude. As an added bonus, she usually brings her shut-in parents a homemade pie!

• Lisa Chaney - Elkhart IN
  Lisa and I are foster parents. After becoming licensed and finding out we were getting foster children-Lisa quit her full-time job so she could devote her time to the children. We didn't feel it would be right to have the children's lives disrupted by being put into foster care and then having to be sent off to a daycare/babysitter further complicating their lives. Lisa has spent tireless hours taking care of the special needs children that have been in our homes. She has taken babies with broken bones/drug addiction etc and has given them the care and attention they so much deserve. She has devoted her life to helping these children while they were in our care. We even adopted a child through the foster care program. Even tho we are not fostering right now-she has been a hero to these children. She has been a huge advocate for these children when they couldn't speak for themselves. Children with special needs are hard to care for and take a lot of time and Lisa gave them that time. Without her-these children may not have gotten the services they so badly needed.

  My mom is a mother of five children, which she raised all on her own. She made sure we all finished high school and attended college. She also made sure our dinner was ready when we got home for school. My mom recently passed away from cervical cancer and instead of telling us and having us worry she kept it to her self for years and fought it on her own until Novemebr of last year when she passed away.

  My hero is my mom because she is always there for me. She always helping me and my brothers and sisters. Everyday of my life is fun because I am with my mom. My mom is a nurse and when I grow up I want to be just like her. This is my hero and if I don't win she will always be my hero.
